ok new plan is it easier to just change the motor or is taking out the lot the easiest way?
hey tony
no you need to loosen the the lower ball joint, and not just the nut, but the joint comes out ot the hole in the lower control arm by use of a pickle fork tool, the the large spindle nut in the center of the hub, that is the outer axle nut. then pull out on the spindle to slide the axle out o the hub, then with a pry bar between the trans and the inner part of the axle, you pop the axle from the trans. you might lose inimal amount of trans fluid(not enough to worry about)but if you only jack up that side of the car high enough you wont lose any.
reverse the procedure to install, and make sure you get the torque spec for the axle nut, and make sure you push the axle all the way in the trans till the c-clip on the end catches or it will fall out.
the spindle nut torque is there for preload on the bearing and needs to be within spec, or wheel bearing can fail, too loose or too tight can damage the bearing.
