How much does it cost to replace rack in pinion on Taurus 99?
There is a play in the front wheels, the car vibrates heavily, especialy with the brakes applied. Rotors were replaced. Got even worse. The mechanic said it is rack in pinion and the job will cost me $650.00. Does that sound about right?
From the dealer a remanufactured rack and pinion will run around $350. Five hours labor at my shop's labor rate is $370. Add in alignment at 43.00 and about 3 bottles of fluid, ballpark figure of $773.00 from a ford dealer. An independent shop would probably run a little cheaper.
