Minimize Flat Tires On Your Bicycle

Should you ride a bike you're eventually going to see a flat. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or experienced rider, road rider or mountain biker, it will happen. However, there are actually steps which you can take to minimize this from happening to you personally and ruining your outing or planned outing.

The very first thing you'll want to do is make sure that your bike is stored properly. If possible, store bike stored inside and from the elements. The expanding and contracting of the rubber will cause the makeup of the tire to breakdown rapidly. If storing your bike inside is simply not possible, consider removing the wheels from the bike and at least storing them inside to guard them from the elements.

Proper Tire Pressure

Properly inflating your tires is critical in all vehicles. Should you be unsure on the proper tire pressure, take some time to check out the sidewall of the tires. Just seek the acronym "psi". However, a tire which is under inflated can either fall off the rim while riding and cause what is commonly known as a "pinch flat".

Visual Inspection

Before riding, make sure you have a quick look at the condition of your tires. Specifically search for cracks or visible defects in the tires, for instance chunks of rubber this is broken off, etc. Also, take a look where the rim and the tire meet around the sidewall. That's where tiny rocks or other debris tend to get wedged in between, causing a gap and loss in tire pressure.

Other Tips

Mainly for mountain bikers, consider the usage of a tire tube which is sometimes referred to as being "thorn resistant". Sure, the price is a little more, but would you rather pay more to keep riding or spend less and increase the probability of getting a flat caused by a thorn or other sharp vegetation?

Utilizing a product called "Slime" or equivalent. This product is injected into your tires via the valve stem, and is precisely what the name suggests. It's a slimy substance that resides in your tube intended to fill in small punctures when they happen, hopefully preventing a total flat while out on a ride. There are also tubes available that have this material inside the tube.

Yet another brand to make note of is, "Armadillo". This tire includes a reputation of being extra tough and very durable, resistant to alot of the elements that could cause other tires to get flat. However, the with all the durability comes a price. The Armadillo apparently rides a tiny bit rougher than other tires.

With proper storage, maintenance, and preparation, you truly can minimize the frequency of flats. A good thing is, these preventative measure cost little if no money and can help you save alot of hassle over time. Happy riding!

Discount tire responsible, make them find or if not replace rims for free. They're covered by insurance, Don't be foolish and pay for something that wasn't your fault. Hang on to your receipt. I had tires replaced on a Porsche and they messed up 2 of my rims, It cost them$3,300.00 to replace. Just stick to your guns and don't let them make you a wuzz.
