5 Tips On Creating A Vision For Your Life
You need vision if you want a successful future. Always expressed in the present tense, as if it were taking place now, a vision is a picture of the future we seek to create. Whether it is for business, projects or teams, all successful leaders have vision. A vision provides a motivating force. The vision process, especially if it is done in detail, can be a key motivator. The following tips are your blueprints for a successful visioning process:
1. Make your vision short and concise. Your vision should be a written collection of avowals, encouraging words, phrases and reminders. One of the benefits of creating a vision for yourself is that it forces you to come up with a plan for reaching your goals. Since you now have a plan, you will work in a more direct manner, which saves time. Once you have a vision, you will find yourself making smarter, more important, goal oriented, focused and purpose-driven decisions automatically.
2. Learn to recognize needs and opportunities, and regardless of conventional wisdom, do something about it. Bear in mind that creating a vision of your preferred future can be met with great opposition. Crafting your vision requires you to draw on your beliefs and your mission. Focus on the positive aspects of creating a vision: it takes you out of extremely narrow beliefs, it gives you direction, and it identifies your purpose.
3. Your vision should allow your true self to emerge. Creating a vision is not about fixing or changing who you are, but rather expanding your life's expression of the real you. It's not another goal to add to your to-do list, but rather, it should be an expression of who you are now and who you want to become. Your vision should inspire you to stretch for your goals, and in doing so you will grow.
4. Incorporate your beliefs. Your vision must include your beliefs. Your beliefs are a statement of your values, and are a visible declaration of your expected outcomes. They must guide your actions and reflect your knowledge and philosophy. For these reasons, any vision you create for yourself must be an expression of what you believe.
5. Create a "vision board" with pictures of the goals you want to attract in your life. Go through magazines or search the Internet for images of your dreams, and paste them on a large piece of cardboard. By looking at your vision board on a daily basis, you will place your vision deep in your subconscious, and you will be amazed by how many of the items on your board actually show up in your life.
