About Custom Servo Drives
Custom servo drives follow a specific mechanism that belongs particularly to that of the motion electronic produce. Mostly described as special electronic amplifiers, a custom servo drive is generally used to power the electric servo motors.
These days, custom servo drives are widely used in different industries. These drives play an important role in industries like robotics, packaging, CNC machining factory, printing and textile. It's a fact that an industry which is solely based on motion control depends exclusively on the servo drives. With its growing usage, there has been an on-going need for custom servo drives.
The major function of customized servo drives include monitoring the feedback signals from motors which is followed by making any subsequent adjustments. Having received the command signal from any control system, the servo drive amplifies the signal. Now command signal stands for torque or position or the desired velocity. After the amplification, the servo drive transmits the electric current to servo motor. Electric current which is transmitted is proportional to the received command signal. The velocity sensor fixed to servo motor reports the actual velocity of the motor back to servo drive.
Custom Servo Drives even change voltage frequency to the servo motor after comparing the real motor velocity with that of the command motor velocity. This is done to correct for any sort of error or mistake in the velocity. A servo drive also acts as brake by pushing off the electricity generated from the servo motor. Most servo motors need a drive specific to that model or brand. However, most drives come compatible with a wide range of motors.
The servo drives constitute a major part of servo system together with the electric encoders and motors. Nonetheless, these drives seem to enjoy several benefits over the traditional AC or DC motor driven mechanism. The servo controls helps determining effectively the internal commands. That's how motion commands of users can be performed with no mistake or error.
As per the Theory of Control, an integral branch of Mathematics and Engineering, a servo drive constitutes an effective and dynamic system. The Control theory actually guides the complete functioning of the servo drives. Today, there are two widely divided categories of the servo drives- digital and analog. I
In digital servo drives, the signal is found discreet and in the analog drive, the signal is continuous. Digital servo drives are in much demand due to its high power density, space-friendly designs and intelligent functioning. Additionally, the digitally operated drives can integrate the motion control core technology which enables superior performance and the modern programming capabilities.
Most digital drives come with a motion controller which features velocity, current, position loops and a wide variety of position feedbacks and commutation kinds. Therefore, the digitally operated servo drive also ensures increased precision and higher dynamics.
Additionally, custom servo drives can be categorized depending on shapes, sizes, electric circuitry, feed back type, variations in the input power, performance and command signal. Every factor plays a key role in determining the actual price of the drive. Few of the cost-effective digital drives include PICODAD, UMAC motion controller and OFDL.

Do digital torque wrenches need re calibration?
I own one of the digital craftsman 3/8 drive torque wrenches.
You cant "Zero out" a digital one. Its on or off its digital/electronic.
Any torque wrench will need recalibrating if it's not treated right.Always zero them out when you put them away.You leave one cranked up it will ruin it.
