The End Time Prophecy of Daniel

   Many people have an interest in end time prophecies, whether it be the Mayan prophecies of the end of the world in 2012, or prophecies found in the Bible. Throughout the years there have been those who have erroneously predicted the time of the end.  These individuals have been viewed as hopelessly deluded.  The time of the end, and when it might occur had never been of concern to me.  Then, starting in 2008, I was overcome with the inspiration to use gematria to evaluate what is written in the Bible. Gematria is a term for various methods of using the numerical value of words to discover hidden truth in Scripture. This can be done because both Hebrew, the language of the OT, and Greek, the language of the NT, use characters of the alphabet for numbers.

   Since I am illiterate in the languages of the Bible, and did not know the appropriate spelling of Hebrew and Greek words according to rules of grammar, I began to use the root word spelling of every word used in complete sentences consistent with Scripture, and found that Biblical truth can be confirmed by equivalent numerical values.  I first found this to be true for sentences which restate what is written regarding Jesus that repeatedly compute to the values of 888, 1480, 2368, and 3168; which are the gematria values for Jesus, Christ, Jesus Christ, and Lord Jesus Christ, in Greek. 

   After finding hundreds of gematria confirmations regarding the Scriptural truth pertaining to Jesus by composing sentences using only the root word spelling of each word according to Strong's Concordance, I was convinced that this had come to me as a result of inspiration from the Holy Spirit. I was then overcome with the thought of using the same technique to evaluate passages of Scripture in relation to end time prophecy, and I was guided to the Book of Daniel, and in particular, the last few verses in that book of prophecy. Those verses are as follows: And from the time of the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. But go thy way till the end: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of days. Daniel 12: 11-13.

   These words and contradictory numbers are confusing, and to my mind were indecipherable as to the actual meaning. Three verses immediately prior to the ones just quoted would seem to indicate the possibility that God may have intended to give insight into this prophecy as the time of the end approaches: And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. Daniel 12: 7-10. Is the time of the end approaching, and are the words of the prophecy now to be unsealed?

   At first I used words from Daniel and from other verses of end time prophecy and found a number of instances where the gematria totals of 1290 and 1335 for sentences which restated these verses computed to 1290 and 1335, the two numbers of days mentioned by Daniel.  I believed that this demonstrated the symbolism of the numbers which confirmed Biblical inerrancy, and thought there was nothing further to discover. However, the numbers of days of which Daniel had written remained in my thoughts. Then one day the idea occurred to me that the number of days is actually the number of years until the end.  I calculated the sum of the two numbers, 1290 +1335 = 2625.  Is this number symbolic, or is it the number of years from the time of Daniel's vision?

   The prophecy of Daniel was written in the third year of Cyrus: In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Beltashazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. And I Daniel alone saw the vision… Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me… Yet heard I the voice of his words… Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. Daniel 10: 1, 7-9, 14.  According to my NIV Study Bible, that was in 539 B.C. Therefore, the year A.D., assuming that the total number of days mentioned in the prophecy is actually years, and subtracting the number of years B.C. in which the vision occurred, gives the following computation: 2625 – 539 = 2086. This number was intriguing, as it is reasonably near in the future.  However, I did not seriously consider it to be the year of the end because the Bible says only the Father knows the day and the hour: But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. Matthew 24: 36.  Nevertheless, I was again guided by an unseen force to use the method of gematria which I believed had been revealed to me in order to further pursue this line of thought. What resulted is simply incomprehensible.

  Gematria can be used to find specific numbers that confirm truth, but random numbers also are associated with words that confirm the truth of the statement.  A random gematria finding confirms the "thing" which God revealed to Daniel.

In the third (H7992) year (H8141) of Cyrus (H3566) God (H430) revealed (H1540) a thing (H1697) unto Daniel. (H1840)

LAST/END (G2078) = εσχατων = 1956

   The thing that was revealed was the number of days, i.e. years, until the end.

The number (H4557) of days (H3117) in the prophecy: (H5016) two (H8147) thousand (H505) six (H8337) hundred (H3967) twenty (H6242) five. (H2568)

מספר יוֹם נבוּאה שׁנִים אלף שׁשׁ מאה עשֹרִים חמש

348 + 620 + 46 + 600 + 111 + 400 + 64 + 56 + 380 = 2625      

   The total number of days prophesied is 2625, and this is actually 2625 years after the prophecy of Daniel until the end, which is confirmed by gematria when a different root word for "number" is used.

   As noted, Scripture tells us that Daniel had his vision of the end time in the third year of Cyrus, 539 B.C.  It is confirmed that the time of the end is 2625 years after the third year of Cyrus.    The word used in Daniel for "third" is more commonly used throughout Scripture for "three," and has a gematria value of 636.  In the following examples I have used this root word, as well as another Hebrew root word which is more commonly used for "third," which has a gematria value of 650.  Also, the root word used in Daniel for "time appointed" has a value of 93, and the more commonly used root word of this meaning has a value of 120.  I have used either of these root words in the sentences.

First note the total gematria value of a simple statement of truth related to Daniel's prophecy.

   These sentences which paraphrase the passage of Scripture in Daniel all have the value of 2625, the total numerical value for the two different numbers of days mentioned in the prophecy.  Does this really indicate the number of years after Daniel's vision?  A different numerical value seems to indicate that this is true.

   The passage in Daniel speaks of the time which the daily sacrifice will be taken away, and the abomination which makes desolate is set up. The Hebrew word for "daily" can also mean "continual." At the end of time God will take away the continual abomination which makes desolate. Gematria reveals when that will be.

It shall be (H1961) the time (H6256) that the continual (H8048) abomination (H8251) that maketh desolate (H8074) is taken away. (H5493)

הִיה עת תּמִיד שׁקּוּץ שׁמם סוּר

266 + 380 + 496 + 454 + 470 + 20 = 2086 

   In the next verse of Daniel, the one who is blessed shall wait to come in 1335 days: Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. Daniel 12: 12.  The Lord is the one who is blessed and will come in the end. Gematria reveals when this symbolic number of days shall be.

Surely (H389) the Lord (H3068) waiteth (H2442) and cometh (H5060) in one thousand (H505) three (H7969) hundred (H3967) and five (H2568) and thirty (H7970) days. (H3117)

אך יהוה חכה נגע אלף שׁלוֹשׁ מאה חמשׁ שׁלוֹשִׁיםִ יוֹם

   The final verse in Daniel speaks of a time of rest: But go thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of days. Daniel 12: 13. The end of time is the final Sabbath when those who are redeemed will have rest as declared in the prophecy of Daniel. Gematria of root words from this verse as indicated by Strong's Concordance reveal when that will be.

Therefore, (H3651) go thou way (H859) (H1980) till the end (H7093) be: for thou shalt rest, (H5117) and stand (H5975) in thy lot (H1486) at the end (H7093) of days, (H3117) the Sabbath. (H7676)

The year of the end is not only revealed by the number of the year, but also by yet a different gematria value as noted in the next example.

It is prophesied: (H5012) thou (H859) shalt rest (H5117) and stand (H5975) in thy lot (H1486) in the last (H319) day. (H3117)

    I was inspired to return to the last chapter of Daniel, and the following verses which precede the ones which mention the 1290 and the 1335 days: ...How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?  And I heard the man clothed in linen...  when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth forever that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.  And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O Lord, what shall be the end of these things?  And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.  Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. Daniel 12: 7-10. Has the time now come so that the words are no longer sealed?  Using words from these verses alone or in combination with additional words to further describe the time of the end, the following gematria confirmations can be found.

Another word of this value is significant when one reads Daniel 12: 4: But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

   The number of days written in Chapter 12 of Daniel is 1290 and 1335, or a total of 2625.

   All Scripture is God breathed, and every prophecy is the result of the prophet being moved by the Spirit as noted in a verse found in 2Peter : For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2Peter 1: 21.    How does one accommodate the revelation of the appointed time of the end to the words of Scripture which state that only the Father knows that day and hour? Are we to believe that when Scripture says that there is a God that reveals secrets, and that nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest, that this does not include the secret time of the end?

   It is written that the Day of the Lord will come "as a thief": For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 1Thessalonians 5: 2. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night… 2Peter 3: 10. Scripture also says: But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief. 1Thessalonians 5: 2.Remember therefore how thou has received and heard, and hold fast and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know the hour I will come upon thee. Revelation 3: 3. If all Scripture is true, then there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets, and nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest, as Jesus proclaimed. It is only those who are in darkness, and do not hold fast to what they have received and heard for whom the Day of the Lord will come as a thief. For those who are in the light and watch for Christ's return, that day and hour will be made known.

   In this short article I have shown just a few of the hundreds of gematria correlations which have come to me that indicate the year 2086 as the time of the end.  This is not something I set out to discover, and I continue to ask myself of what importance are these gematria findings, as they will be viewed with extreme skepticism and rejected by most who read what I have written.  I have no authority as a theologian or Biblical scholar, I have no great knowledge of gematria, I am illiterate in Hebrew and Greek, and I have no moral authority above any other man.  Even if it is truly a revelation from the Holy Spirit, how are people to react?  I will certainly not be alive in the year 2086, as is the situation for most who might read this.  For me, as for other Christian believers, the time of the end is inconsequential, as I know my final destiny is with Christ whenever the time comes.  For those who have not accepted Jesus as their Savior, perhaps what I have written will cause them to reconsider the inerrant truth found in the Bible.

   My journey of discovery through gematria came about after I had prayed for enlightenment that I might be able to convince those who have rejected Jesus that what is written in Holy Scripture is true.  In the early stages of the inspiration to use numbers I read the following verses in Daniel; the highlighted words seemed to be a message to me: But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these; As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.  But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation…  Daniel 2: 28-30.  I will leave it up to those who might read what I have written to make their own determination if the gematria findings are manipulation of words, an astounding coincidence, or a message from the Spirit of God.
