Timing Belt???
Does anyone know when or at what mileage you should get the timing belt replaced on a 2002 VW Jetta 1.8 Turbo, 4 cyl? If my car sometimes turns off when I have to abruptly put on the brakes could that be from the timing belt? If not, what could be the cause to this problem?
It's a manual transmission which is cool when I am in traffic because I can quickly turn it back on.
First off its not the timing belt causing your problem, cause if it braoke it wouldnt start up again. Check your owners manual for replacement interval (i think its 60k on yours) and get it done if need be, the vw 1.8 is an interferance engine so if the timing belt does break, theres a good chance you could bend valves making a much much more expensive repair. Is your check engine light on? This would be the place to start looking for you engine stall as many things could cause this. My hunch from the couple ive looked at would be igniton coil problem.
