Spinning Exercises: Getting In Shape The Fun Way
Getting fit is important for everybody. One excellent and popular type of fitness is spinning execise or studio cycling. There are several benefits to this exercise, it helps buttress your lungs and heart, tone your muscles especially the lower body - the glutes, thighs, and calves. Linear and angular acceleration?
I have a question i am struggling with. I don't want the answer, just a nudge in the right direction. This is the info that i do have.
A flywheel rotating at 200 rad/s has a brake applied for 40s. This brake has a force of 19.6N.
I need to calculate the reaction of the braking force.
(I also have the density of the flywheel material and its sizes, and the coefficient of friction between the wheel and the shoe is 0.35, if that even comes into it?)
Please help, i'm stumped as to where to go!

Peter, the force is applied to the brake shoe, and the wheel has a diameter of 450mm, so the point of contact will be 225mm from the centre of the wheel. How would you use this to ascertain the rate at which the wheel slows?
I presume the brake force of 19.6 N is applied to the brake shoe, and the coefficient of friction will give you the actual retarding force on the wheel. The missing bit of information, if you want to know about the rate at which the flywheel slows, is the distance of the point of application of the braking force from the centre of the wheel.
