Know everything about sprinkler heads
A sprinkler head should be selected very carefully. The selection of the head of sprinkler depends a lot on the sight as well as the water conditions of the area. Adequate information about the sprinklers can be found through various catalogues and booklets. Many sprinkler heads also come up with additional features such as nozzle options and angular trajectories. The selection should be done based on these additional features. The following article can give you detailed knowledge about the various types of sprinkler heads available in the market and the basic points which should be considered while selecting one.
A sprinkler head can be classified into three types-
- Sprays
- Rotary heads and
- Bubblers
For irrigation with treated waste water, the bubbler and spray sprinkler heads should be avoided. However, the three systems can be used to irrigate portable water. A rotary head sprinkler can provide you with a large radius and prevent any kind of clogging or blockage due to dirt particles. It prevents formation of ice in the water.
Given below are a few guidelines which might help you in selecting appropriate sprinkler heads for yourself-
- Appropriate sprinkler radius- The geometrical structure of the area under consideration is very important. The radius should be selected according to the distance to be covered. A sprinkler head with a radius of 35-50 feet can be used as a starter.
- The flow rate- The number of sprinkler heads should be chosen according to the flow rate. The total number of sprinkler heads determines the pump capacity. The flow rate should be chosen very carefully.
- Pressure requirements- The dynamic pressure requirements should exceed the pressure limitations of the sprinkler under use. This guarantees proper functional abilities.
- The spraying pattern- Most of the sprinklers come with adjustable spraying patterns while some of them can be adjusted.
- The angles of the trajectory- The angles of a trajectory range from 18 degrees to 28 degrees. The angles can affect the precipitation rate and throw radius of the sprinkler.

can someone help me find out how to calculate flow rate in pipes and pump head for water transfer pump?
can someone help me find out how to calculate flow rate in pipes of different materials and different dia's. also i wish to know how to calculate water transfer pump head for transfer and booster pumps. i searched a lot on net but havent got straight formula's. can someone help me out.tks. sandhya.
I am not sure the exact information you want but Rainbird (Irrigation).com has a chart of pipe sizes of various irrigation pipes through 6 inches in the back of their catalog which shows flow rates and friction loss in plastic and iron pipes. Search catalog then go to reference on their web site to see this information. Southern California Edison's Hydraulic Services division does irrigation pump testing in its jurisdiction and if you contact Mike Poortenga in their office at 909 820 5159 he may be able to help you find the information you want on your pumps.
