Building A Shed: Is Metal Or Wood The Best Option?
A shed is a great addition to any home. It will free up cupboard space around the house and give you somewhere to finally put all that stuff that lies in the garden like an eyesore and gets rusty over the winter months. Although there are many choices, two of the most popular are metal and wood. Here are the pros and cons of each.
Metal
pros
1:Putting up a metal shed is easy, even for the most inexperienced. any decent set of plans for a metal shed will be easy to follow and many kits simply clip together.
2: there are many different sizes and styles available on the market to suit most budgets and needs.
3: A metal shed is usually a fairly inexpensive way to build.
cons
1: You get what you pay for. cheap material often means rusting over the winter.
2: Metal sheds get very cold. Depending on what you are storing, this could be a problem.
3: Some constructions can be fairly ugly.
4: If you aren't attentive to the plans, leaks and draughts can be a problem.
Wood
pros
1: A wooden shed looks great. If you follow proper plans, you will have something you can really be proud of.
2: A wooden shed offers a solidity that will put up with the worst of the winter weather.
3: A good material list will save you spending too much on lumber and let you choose the type of wood you want for a range of different looks, sizes and styles.
cons
1: You are going to need some tools to get this job done. The latest and most expensive power-tools might not be necessary, but a good range of hard-wearing basics (saw, hammer, pliers etc) is important.
2: You need to stick to a plan. A wooden shed is not the best place to improvise. This can cost you time and money.
