How Effective is HTR?
Around 30 million teeth are lost on an annual basis from Americans alone because of periodontal disease. In a situation like this, the hard tissue of the jaws is exposed due to plaque fosters bacteria that eat away gums. The bone in the jaws then decays and recedes, allowing the tooth to work loose. When it comes to stopping this process, dentists are hopeful that a new material known as HTR polymer will do the trick. Here, gritting their patient's teeth seems to work wonders.
For several periodontists on the East Coast, it has been nine years and they are continuing to pack HTR polymer into the gaps that occur between the teeth and the diseased jaws. The polymer, essentially tiny porous plastic beads coated with a calcium compound, also appear useful for bolstering jaw ridges as denture anchors and preventing jaw deterioration where a tooth has been removed.
There was a New York periodontist who said that they have tried out animal bones, plaster of Paris, human bones, and all sorts of fillers, From these, none have been working as consistently as this one. As mentioned by a company spokesman, a lot of teeth, millions of them, can be saved by this product according to the new materials manufacturer. Plenty of experts are still doubting the capabilities of HTR just like how many of them were skeptical when it comes to various ceramics and metal pins that preceded it.
Based from what the official of the American Dental Association's council on materials and instruments said, no jury is existent here. When it comes to a material that can stimulate bone growth, nothing has been able to do so. A recent company backed survey of 64 dentists, periodontists and oral surgeons found that in 647 uses of the material, 634 were considered a success.
Failures can be attributed to the attempt of saving teeth loosened by periodontal disease. There were experimental uses for HTR in New York clinics and clinics surrounding the area long before the Food and Drug Administration approval was received in 1983. Considering this material, the company claims that it has reached a 98 percent success rate in more than 4,000 uses worldwide.
For the results and the material itself, the dental association has yet to receive these and so they have no official position. In terms of the material, the company hopes that it will gain acceptance nationwide. It is negatively charged not to mention biologically compatible, nonreabsorbable, and hydrophilic making it able to take up water. In terms of the ideal grafting material, this is HTR.
Simple and mysterious is how he describes the workings of HTR. With regard to the small granules, they are injected in the corroded space around the tooth to serve as a sort of scaffolding around which new bone material can collect and grow. This material has a hydrophilic nature and because of this it attracts wet bone marrow cells and the negative charge holds them there and stimulates growth. There is a need for calcium so that the material will be able to integrate with the bone.
In stopping with teeth, this man who was once the head of dental research at a medical school in New York is no longer willing to consider this. When it comes to HTR which stands for hard tissue replacement, he said that it should work anywhere necessary. When it comes to what they did, he says that a considerable amount of work on the spinal fusion and in the treatment of bone fractures were already achieved. If you can properly mold HTR then it can be used as a complete bone replacement.

i chipped half my tooth 2 years ago and my dentist put fake half part on then it kept coming about 3 times then he put a strong one wher he put pins and stuff on. Last year i had braces done will it still work because that tooth looks a bit down to my other front one and is there anyway i can make it in line to my other front one?
