Can a 1985 IROC engine and transmission fit in a 1985 Monte Carlo?
The IROC engine I believe is a 305 hooked to an automatic transmission and the Monte Carlo is 305 with an automatic transmission. I know little about cars so I need to know with it be an easy hook up or would I need to make new motor mounts? Also what else would I need to do?
The engine would be an easy swap. The iroc has a 700R4 transmission, this is a 4 speed automatic with a lcoking torque converter, whereas the monte carlo has a 3 speed automatic (turbo350). In order to put the 700R4 in the monte carlo, you will need to do adapt the monte carlo's three speed shifter to a 4 speed and you will need to figure out a way to lock the torque converter at 50-60mph, since you will not be using the iroc cpu (or will you?).
The engine will be and easy swap, either get the computer and install it in the monte carlo or use carberation on the iroc engine and avoid the computer. TCI used to make a kit that installed inside the 700r4 that would cause the torque converter to lock up based on hydrolic pressure inside the tranny.
