Increase fuel economy, reduce emissions

Yes you've probably heard it all before, save on gas, save on petrol, reduce emissions, but how do you do that, when fuel prices keep going up.

 

It's hard when you have to use your vehicle every day, for travelling to and from work, or using it FOR work as a business owner, representative, taxi driver or truck or van driver. If you are a truck driver and have a diesel engine (cummins, gardiner, rolls-royce, detroit, cat, etc) you will have even higher fuel prices.

 

You fill up and drive on.  "Where can I save? How DO I reduce emissions. How can I get better fuel economy?" you ask.

 

Well, there is a way.  Two, in fact.

 

One way is to drive more carefully.  Keep your foot from the floor, so that your engine revs can be kept as low as possible.  Drive as if you had a glass of water on your bonnet or hood.  Your tyres should be kept at the optimum pressures. Brake lightly.  To do this, you need to "read the road", study the road ahead.  You should be looking about 100 yards or 100 metres ahead, so you can see any situations arising before they become problems.

 

The other way is to make a small investment in an innovative automotive products range, that is taking the world by storm. I have a Lincoln 235 AC welder?

What current do i use for diff metal thickness? and what rods do I need to use? I will building a trailer using angle iron. I can make a beautiful weld once I get started.

You will need E7018 electrodes for general fabrication, 1/8'' and 3/32'' depending on the thickness of materical. For 1/4'' materical you can run a 1/8'' 7018 at 120 amps +/- 10%, and 3/32'' 7018's around 80-90 amps. AC will make welding a little more tricky, AC on stick will make the arc erratic and harder to control but it still works, use electrode positive. for 1/8'' material i would use the 3/32 rod on 85 amps or so, the amps will vary depending on how well your welder is calibrated and if it has been tuned in a while. If you are going to do alot of your own welding you should buy a DC machine, they run ALOT smoother than the older AC ones.
P.s. for material above 3/8'' use 115-130 amps, anything over 130 and the electrode starts to turn into a sparkler and will gouge the metal badly. adjust your machine until the weld looks good, the arc should sound like cooking bacon(seriously) but with AC it will crack more. 7018's are general rods and any welding supply store will carry them, they are a lime/iron powder basic electrode and should be kept in a dry spot away from water and dampness.
