AVG uninstall error, please help.?

I had AVG free version 8.5 & it was functioning well, I had no issues at all. Until I bought the paid version of the ANTI-VIRUS & ANTI-SPY-WARE kit at Target and tried to remove the old one. I ran the uninstaller from the control panel, did the restart (the whole 9 yards) & then tried to install the new product.

It kept saying that installation failed. Now I still see AVG on my start menu, the short cut is still on my desktop and I can still find it in my list of programs in the control panel. I can neither uninstall the old one, or install the new one.

This is the error message I get:Installer initialization failed due to following error:
Error: @AvgErrorCode_0x0253 %FILE% = "C:Program FilesAVGAVG8"
@AvgErrorCode_0x0020

Please help me. I tried using system restore, uninstalling in safe mode, using CC Cleaner to uninstall AND when that didn't work, I tried Revo Uninstaller. I simply do not know what else to do at this point.

Avast got: "Standard" level certification.

According to this you can discard AVG, and choose between Avira or Avast. I would recommend Avira because it has the highest proactive detection of new Malware (with some false Alarm).
