Why is there such a temp diff between the hallway and my dining room?

My thermostat is in the hall across from a bathroom and I had the same issue. If you have a bathroom in the hall, close the register. Leaving it open keeps the hall cool so the air won't kick on. This really made a difference for me. Also close off the register to the laundry room and only open them when you're in there.
