can i use square tubing for a body lift?

im doing a 2" body lift on my geo tacker and i have UHMW blocks but im having difficulty finding the threaded roads for the bolt extensions. the cheapest i can find is $80 to buy the hardware from Sky Manuf.

i have also seen people use square tubing, where the the body stud bolts to the tube and a separate bolt secures it to the frame. this would be really easy and i can order it from mcmaster carr. i was thinking a 2"x2" block of 6063 aluminum with 1/4" thick walls. thats the thickest they make it and it would cost around $20 plus hardware. would this work? should i use steel or is Alum strong enough? im trying to do this on a budget, since i have a feeling i will need to run new brake lines for this to work.
and im not trying to do a half @ss job either, i like finding inexpensive ways to do things, and making my own parts. i have machining tools at work and some experience behind me.
