Tunnel Hull Boat Plans - Is It The Right Plan For You?
If you want to build a boat that can boast of great performance comparatively speaking, it may be high time for you to go over some tunnel hull boat plans. If racing is your thing and you have the proverbial need for speed, this type of boat will perfectly suit you.
Tunnel boats owe its high performance from both hydrodynamics and aerodynamics mechanisms of its components. Its stability as well as its controlled flight is largely due to the planing interaction with the surrounding water. Also, it is good to take note that the air lift can very well be the reason behind its high performance in the water.
There are some basic engineering principles at work that gives tunnel hull boats its superior performance. While you may not need to know the minute details of it, you do need to take note that the hull design should give particular attention to the hull drag, hull lift and dynamic stability. These three components will definitely dictate the general and overall performance of the boat.
The extreme details with which the tunnel hull boat has to be constructed is one of the reasons why this is not the best boat design beginners should be working on. The success of the project as well as the resulting performance of the boat depends on the tiniest details.
A specific example in this case is that when constructing a tunnel boat, the generated lift forces must be exactly equal to the weight of the hull. And this is including all boat accessories, engine, fuel, payloads - everything that contributes to its overall weight. Otherwise, if this requirement is not met with certain precision, the balance is compromised. When there's less hull weight and too much lift, chances are, you're going to take off as if you are on an airplane.
And this is precisely why if you ever decide to tackle such a detailed boat building project, you will be needing the most elaborate tunnel boat plans you can get your hands on. Detailed plans will be an real time as well as cost saver. That's not mentioning the amount of frustration you'll do away with if you're working with really good boat plans.
For starters, you should check if the tunnel boat plans have loads of images that goes along with the step by step instruction. This will eliminate some confusion in dimensions and measurements and it'll be easier to visualize the proper way to do things.
Also, I strongly suggest that you go over varying tunnel boat plans so you can compare. This way, you also get to decide which tunnel boat size would suit your needs as well as your preferences.
